Franklin Delano Roosevelt

January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945
Democrat
Terms: March 3, 1933 - January 19, 1937 (Vice president: John N. Garner)
January 20, 1937 – January, 19 1941 (Vice president: Henry A. Wallace)
January 20, 1945 – April 12, 1945 (Vice president: Harry Truman)

My outlook on FDR’s presidency was a definite A as a grade. All his hard work and dedication to bringing the economy back during the depression deserves this grade. Without all of FDR’s efforts many positive outcomes for the US may have never happened. Although some of his efforts during the depression went sour, his heart and goals as president were hard fought at getting the US back on their feet again
.

The main goal that FDR was trying to accomplish during his time as president was to get the US back together again, and out of this hole that was the depression at the time. He put together the new deals programs which were designed to help the economy flourish and to get people jobs again. The Civilian conservation corps and works progress administration are both examples of how FDR made an effort to bring jobs to the people during the depression. Closing the banks and making them much more trustworthy for the people was also one of FDR’s goals. He wanted Americans to be able to have confidence in putting their money in the banks again. After the great fall of the depression this was a very hard thing for the American people to do because they were so worried they would lose all their hard earned money again.
FDR’s relationship with congress was a very pleasant one. The majority of Congress at the time were all democrat. This made passing anything fairly easy for FDR. All of his new deal plans were for the most part easily passed for him. Agreeing with FDR most of the time as democrats was a very good benefit for Roosevelt to have during his presidency.

A negative affect that FDR made during his presidency, I believe was his creation of the Federal Emergency relief act. This act was argued by many people in the United States, some did not agree with this act at all. This act gave out millions of government money to unemployed people in the U.S. The problem with this though was the fact that those millions of dollars were not being put to use on specific things like jobs. Many people argued that the money they gave to the unemployed could have been used by those people in unnecessary ways that were not needed at the time. A better use of this money is what I would of liked to have seen out of FDR at the time.

A positive affect FDR had was also his lasting effect as president. Many of Roosevelt’s new deals programs are still with us today, or the idea of them are still hear in some way. His drive and efforts to turn the economy around when it was at its lowest of lows is a great accomplishment in it self. A lot was riding on FDR’s shoulders at the time and I believe as a president he did his best at completing the tasks at hand. His new deals programs as a whole were his most positive decisions as president.

In conclusion, FDR’s time as president was a long and hard one. I believe his efforts should be applauded and looked at with great honor. He had a lot on his plate to deal with during the depression and his immediate action is why FDR deserves a solid A for his performance as president.
